Artist Statement
I have this inherent fascination with touch, I was always the one to walk down the aisles in a store and have that need to just touch absolutely everything. This was because I needed to know what the texture felt like, the colors and the textures appearance was all so overly stimulating for me that my curiosity overpowered my mind. As an artist, I strive to create over stimulated textural surfaces for my users to explore. By utilizing delicate slab built forms to provoke one's thoughts, through the experience of the use of a functional object. While also always thinking about one's 5 senses and how can I activate all of them within my work. By making use of the dimensional canvas, it allows for me to create an invitation, inviting my users to run their hands over my surfaces. For most, the idea of touching a painting is unacceptable but touching the outside of a mug is. As users we’ve created boundaries within our minds that stop us from being curious and allowing for us to explore. I want you, as my user to allow yourself to become curious once again with an object. To find something each time and be transmitted to a moment of over stimulation. Through this body of work I hope to understand one's impulses when it comes to an object and sensory stimulation. While breaking a barrier of what functionality is to a user and how do we overcome one's present boundaries.
