My work is characterized by consistency, perfection, thoroughness, and handmade work, which emphasizes free will, randomness, and casualness. I have been thinking about the relationship between ideas, notions, and concepts of tradition and contemporary art. This is the most significant reason for my perpetual need to continue creating and exploring, while constantly questioning and pursuing the idea of how I could create a new horizon of ceramics as an expression within my work.
All of my pieces, addressed about psychological conditions of daily life. That question is an attempt to look for my identity as an artist. I have been focused on one subject, which I called “Listening”. Listening is a metaphor for describing my emotions of myself. I was motivated by the idea that displacement is completely outside my control, but such a good chance to pursue my aesthetic work. Listening was my way of making a visual reality from my abstracted inner emotions.

Yeonsoo Kim was born in Haenam, South Korea. He is a long-term resident artist at Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT. Kim earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics at Lamar Dodd School of Art, University of Georgia in Athens, GA. He was recently selected as a recipient of a 2020 Emerging Artist award by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA).
