Alicia Brown-Matthes Collection

These cherished, one-of-a-kind piece was displayed in a private collection in our very own Iowa City, Iowa. Pieces in this collection were originally acquired from the artists, from ClayAKAR, or from other galleries. Any pieces that have been in use are in excellent condition unless otherwise noted.

Alicia was a valued member of our Iowa City community, she was a member of the dance faculty at Iowa State University and subsequently the University of Iowa. Alicia chaired the University of Iowa Department of Dance from 1990 to 1996. She created and directed the University’s annual Dance Gala from 1977 to 2000, inspiring students with her choreography, artistic mastery and strength. She also served the National Endowment for the Arts as a site visit consultant. 

In 2000, Alicia stepped away from the stage. Never afraid to learn something new, she began a second career, one full of color and movement applied to paper. Alicia’s artwork was showcased at local art galleries including Hudson River Gallery.
