What is CLAYAKAR?
AKAR in Sanskrit means forms and shapes, therefore the new name CLAYAKAR for this website focusing on forms made in Clay.
AKAR was established in 1998 by Sanjay and Jigna Jani, both architects with a passion for ceramics. Art, architecture and designed converged in one location, both at a brick and mortar and an online store for many years.
Do I need to create an account?
Creating an account is optional, but quick and easy. Checkout will be quicker since the account will prefill your billing and shipping address on subsequent orders and allow easy access to your order history, status and shipping updates.
"Add to Cart" button not responding?
Occasionally on opening sales day, due to increased traffic on the website, the "Add to Cart" button is not responsive. To try and fix this problem we suggest attempting to open the website in a different web browser i.e. chrome or mozilla. During business hours you can always place your order with an in-store sales associate over the phone (319) 351-1227.
Items in cart disappearing as you proceed to check out?
For some customers items will disappear from their shopping cart as they proceed to check out. To try and fix this problem we suggest attempting to open the website in a different web browser i.e. chrome or mozilla or attempting to clear the web browsing cache, history, and cookies. If you don't know how to do this searching "how do I clear cache" in the search bar of the browser you are using and it will direct you. During business hours you can always place your order with an in-store sales associate over the phone (319) 351-1227.
What are my payment options?
We accept payment through all major Credit cards, Paypal and Check.
What is the Shipping Policy / When will my item ship?
Shows usually ship within 5 business days after a show with some shipping earlier, a tracking number is emailed out with every item. For our Americano and Yunomi show, please allow 1-3 weeks for shipping and delivery due to the large size of these shows. We do have an in-store gallery at our location in Iowa City, Iowa and set up all of our ceramic shows, unless otherwise listed in our newsletter, for in-store Friday morning openings. When shipped, all ceramics items are individually bubble wrapped and double boxed, if you have specific shipping requests feel free to send an email or call.
Do you ship outside of the United States?
Can I purchase a gift certificate?
At this time, we do offer gift certificates, in the "Main Menu" tab "Send a Gift Card" is now an option.
Will I receive an email confirmation?
Yes. We will send you an email confirmation when we receive your order and with a tracking number when it is on its way to you.
How do I report damaged items?
If your shipment arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org. We insure all packages and submit the claims. Please keep all the original boxes, packaging material and damaged item(s) until the claim process is completed.
What is your return policy?
Please contact us at 319.351.1227 or email@example.com and return the items within 14 days. Items must be returned in original unused condition and according to our packaging guidelines. Shipping and handling costs are non refundable. Return your package to: AKAR, 257 Iowa Avenue, Iowa City, IA 52240. We will notify you by email once we have received and processed your returned item(s).
Can I cancel my order?
Yes, as long as it has not shipped yet. Please contact us at 319.351.1227 or firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
Would you like to pick up your order at our store?
Before proceeding to the check out, click "View Cart" and scroll to the bottom. On the right will be a box with a "Free Local Pickup" option. Also, all customers residing in Iowa will have a "Free Local Pickup" option in the shipping method section. If you wish to pick up in-store and you do not live in Iowa, please call us at 319.351.1227 to complete your order.
