From the Artist: These earthenware pots are my newest layer of sediment. Like the ground under us, this collection is the result of much jostling about by big and small tectonics. Some of opportunity and some of necessity. By using a relatively simple group of materials, evoking aspects of geologic phenomena and making metaphorical connections to my lived experiences can be found in spaces of planar contrast, textural presence and haptic density. Most of these pots develop their surfaces throughout their entire time in the studio. Big shifts crack open quickly with a slice of the knife while more subtle interplays of deposition and erosion drag through material at different states, continuing well after they've been made. Leaving remnants of what was on pots continues to present me with opportunity spaces to be curious about what it means to be alive here on this rock. Thank you for spending time with my work.
