About the work featured here-
"These pots, part of my Pixel Pottery project, are the result of some research I have been doing to explore what is newly possible with the rise of consumer 3D printing and digital software such as Fusion 360 and Blender. In these works, the forms are generated from simple mathematical equations that are then revolved around a central axis, similar to what happens on the wheel. Once the form is created and tested for function, it is converted into “voxels” or volumetric pixels. I discovered that when a round, curved form is expressed in cubes, patterns emerge that both complement the curves and reflect the core form. On the bowls, the circular patterns that emerge are a double image of the sphere that the bowl is generated from. The surface tension and viscosity of the glaze concentrate the color selectively across the form simply by gravity and movement of the fluid glaze in the firing. I am fascinated by the natural phenomena that still plays out in ceramics even when the human hand is fully invisible in the execution of the form."
