Sami Tsang is a Canadian-born Chinese woman artist. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramic Art at Alfred University (NY) in 2021. She is currently an Artist-in-Residence (Ceramics) at Harbourfront Centre (Toronto, Canada).
Sami uses openness and humor in her ceramic work. Her approach to decoration is heavily influenced by her time living in Hong Kong, where she studied Chinese traditional painting for 7 years. Sami's cartoon-like gestures were inspired by reading comic books at a young age. When she illustrates emotion like anger, she intensifies the imagery with bold, directional line art; When she illustrates emotion like anxiety, she uses drybrush painting techniques to generate vibration within characters. Sami is currently an Artist-in-Residence (Ceramics) at Harbourfront Centre (Toronto, Canada).
