Solo Show: Shumpei Yamaki, June 5th 2026
"Kuman the Anagama"
Available Online Friday June 5th at 10:00 am CST
Join us in the gallery 5-8pm for the Iowa City Gallery Walk Event
This special exhibition features 40 ceramic works by local artist Shumpei Yamaki. The collection includes both wheel-thrown functional ware and hand-built sculptures. Each piece was fired for 100 hours in his Anagama wood kiln, creating rich, natural surfaces.
Also included are a selection of Shumpei’s finely detailed ceramic dinosaurs. Drawing from his background in paleontology, Shumpei brings lifelike presence and character to these miniature hand-built forms.
Join us for a Gallery Walk with Shumpei during the exhibition opening. Shumpei will be present to discuss his work, share insights into his Anagama firing process, and answer questions about the inspiration and techniques behind the exhibition. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artist and learn more about the stories and processes that shape each piece.
