Teapot + Yunomi Invitational 2026: August 2026

Our 20th Annual Yunomi Show

Online Only, Friday August 2026 at 10:00 am CST

Featuring over 1,000 interpretations of the classic yunomi form. This show celebrates the yunomi form, the traditional Japanese handleless teacup, honoring its heritage while inviting contemporary interpretation, and continues to attract a devoted following among potters and collectors.

The show honors the everyday tea vessel of Japan while exploring its evolution within modern studio pottery. We are bringing together a select group of artists whose work demonstrates a thoughtful engagement with form, function, and material presence, fostering a dialogue between heritage and innovation.

Definition of Yunomi (U-No-Me): A yunomi is a functional, handleless drinking vessel rooted in the Japanese tea cup tradition. Typically taller than it is wide, it is intended for drinking hot tea and designed for comfortable use in the hand. Unlike the more formal chawan tea bowl used in the Japanese tea ceremony, the yunomi is made for everyday, informal tea drinking. While a chawan is wider and held with two hands for whisking tea, a yunomi is usually taller, narrower, and held with one hand, most often used for tea made with loose leaves.
