I rely on the central role of utilitarian objects as vehicles for nourishment. The physical vessel used to prepare, serve and eat food from. I use these objects as a conduit to speak further about connection between human beings and the rest of the natural world. I am intrigued by the diverse workings of nature and the intricate networks created by the intersections of culture, ethics, commerce, history, ritual, community and environment.

My current body of work focuses on formal elements and surface treatments that reference geometry, which is both the governing principle of growth in the natural world as well as the ancient architectural language of sacred spaces.

I choose to fire my work using the atmospheric wood-fire process to create varied and organic surfaces.Wood-firing embodies and reaffirms the ideas of nature, environment, history, ritual and community held within the work. The process incorporates experimentation, skillfulness, knowledge and an intimacy over time. The atmospheric effects often blur and obscure intended surface work which mimics the distance and obscurity found in the connections we have with our nourishment today.
