The work I create is a meditation on memories and the interactions between people. By its repetitive nature, the medium of clay is a meditative process in its own right and I apply the experience throughout the entire making process. The connection between object and memory is strong, creating a loadstone for place and time. It is those places and the experiences surrounding them, the human interactions that occur within them, that interests me the most. As a way of creative storytelling I use animal characters to represent the conversations between humans that I desire to engage my audience with. Specific memories that inspire me are for myself, but the translation into illustration on the objects can be interpreted differently by everyone; a mix of cautionary tales and stories of love and hope. Through the vehicle of storytelling I hope to give my audience a moment of thoughtfulness and meditation, bringing them full circle to the core of my making practice. We are all connected in our moments of growth and our personal experiences no matter how varied them may be.
