"It’s never too late!"

After a 30-year career in the health field, I discovered the joy of clay. I have been a full-time potter for 15 years. I enjoy making functional and decorative work, using wood, gas, and electric kilns. I like pots with natural forms that record the action of the maker and the process of the pot’s creation. In atmospheric firings, I like pots that retain evidence of their plastic clay origin and whose surfaces record the path of the flame and effects of prolonged heat. In electric firings, I like to do sgraffito, and show the maker’s mark by leaving part of the background exposed when carving designs. This presents as a kind of ‘faux-woodcut’ effect. My pots are meant to be used in everyday life. My intention is to combine the output of head, heart, and hands to add a bit of specialness to things we use every day.

 

BIO
Carolanne Currier received a BA in Art from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL, and an MA in Environmental Biology from Hood College, Frederick, MD. She discovered clay in retirement after a 30-year career in the health field. She is a self-taught potter and has been potting full-time for 15 years. Carolanne uses wood, gas, and electric kilns to get the surfaces that best complement her organic forms. Her pots have received numerous awards and can be found in homes and collections internationally.
