ARTIST STATEMENT / BIO

Cody Moser is a 2023 graduate of Bowling Green State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education. He currently works full-time as an art educator, teaching visual arts to students in grades 7–12.

As a ceramic artist, Cody works primarily with dark stoneware, terracotta clay, and underglazes. These materials carry a sense of earthiness, permanence, and expression. The vessels serve as reflective surfaces, literally and metaphorically. Exploring the layered nature of memory and personal experience. Drawing on his own childhood, Cody uses digitally hand-drawn stencils to build visual narratives that echo moments of loss, growth, and transformation.

Each form begins as a raw, tactile dialogue with clay. Through surface design, Cody intertwines symbols, patterns, and figures that evoke memory fragments. Thus creating work that invites viewers to consider how their pasts shape their present. The stencil process, with its repetition and precision, mirrors the act of remembering—partial, selective, and sometimes distorted. The intention is not just to preserve a personal story, but to offer a space where others can reflect on their own.

Ultimately, the work is about connection—between material and maker, memory and object, viewer and vessel. Through clay, experiences are translated into tactile form, allowing the past to quietly shape the present.
