Artist: Dee Quinn
Dee Quinn, IRELAND
Bio
Dee Quinn is a ceramic artist from Co. Sligo, Ireland.
I initially studied print and graphics in college in Dublin before returning to Sligo. While searching for work I took a job in a local pottery studio and was immediately hooked on clay. I worked there for two years before taking a long hiatus from clay vowing to return one day. I set up my own studio around ten years ago and have never looked back.
Dee now works from her own home studio in the seaside town of Enniscrone, Co. Sligo.
Artist Statement
My work is made with terracotta at cone 1 electric. I am intrigued by the weathered textures of everyday objects, and I layer each piece with this sense of age. The pieces often have a painterly feel, infused with a range of colours, while their aged appearance is achieved through paper transfers and resist. By using this combination of techniques, I create unique ceramics that draw attention to the beauty of the weatherworn.
I use coloured slips as you would impasto paint to achieve this effect.
