Nature is filled with movement. Sgraffito carving captures this transient quality and preserves and enhances the way that nature delights the senses: eddies in water, leaves fluttering in the breeze, stems and petals, the effervescence of a sparkling wine in the glass, even the whorls and loops on the tips of your fingers.
My recent work examines patterns from nature influenced and changed by the world we live in: man-made gardens to rugged wilderness and the balance struck between the two. I enjoy working both on the wheel and handbuilding; creating forms which embody my visual and tactile experience of natural world and transmitting that feeling to whomever holds my work. From my studio in the wooded hills of the Bay Area in California, I create ceramic pieces for daily use as well as decorative display.
