ARTIST STATEMENT:
Generally speaking, if my work holds water, it’s an accident. The cups I make are an exception to this. They are meant to be useful, but non-universal. That is, not every cup will work for every person. I use curves and angles to try and create interesting shapes to hold and drink from.
Here are some things that influence my work: Languages, tools, human and animal anatomy, machine parts, architecture, math equations, small movements of facial muscles, uncertainty, the argentine tango, the spine, memory, perception, cloud formations, plants, gravity, running water, and songbirds.
