My work explores the vessel both as a metaphor and and as an object of corporeal physicality. The forms allude to plants and human bodies; imagery that artists have used throughout the centuries to express ideas about their relationship to the world. I work in volumes that reflect the interactions of flesh and bone and breath, exploring the idea of vessel as body, and volume as spirit. Through the investigation of line and volume, form and color, interior and exterior, I am able to find balances within myself, between my intellect and intuition, my masculine and feminine qualities, my flesh and my dreams.
The core element of the work is function. My pots are made to be touched and held. While concerned in the thoughts of beauty and transformation they are firmly rooted in the sensual, physical world. My intention is to make life-affirming objects. In order for them to be fully realized they must be used, becoming active parts of the celebration of life.
