I investigate intimacy which is inherent in handmade vessels by reaching out to others with familiar forms—a cup, bowl or jar. The bowl holds nourishment, the jar keeps and protects, and the cup communes with the mouth. These objects have a particular relational aesthetic to the user, one born from form and function.

Designs and thick glaze on the surface become places of haptic discovery. Patterns drawn on surfaces find inspiration in science which are then interpreted through the lens of modern aesthetics to become the background of daily experiences.

Each pot in a set has nuances and peculiarities from the artist’s hand which become apparent with use. Over time, the functionality acts as a device to bring the user to a greater understanding of a particular piece, thereby deepening the dialogue between pot and user.
