ARTIST BIO
Jay Jensen has lived and worked in River Falls, Wisconsin for nearly 35 years. He received his MFA from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. His main concerns that drive his work are function, form and surface. Working as a graphic designer for 10 years and his interest in printmaking has recently inspired the surface treatment of his pottery.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Jay uses handbuilding techniques and the potters wheel to create pouring vessels, boxes and sculpture. His approach to the development of his work stems from his previous experience as a graphic designer and his interest in combining technology with traditional pottery. His ceramics begins on the computer using a program to design the form, and then it is printed into flat patterns that will later be transferred to slabs of clay and folded into 3D forms.
