Functional pots have been a source of curious and engaging problems for many years. The nature of pots is complex and is disclosed over time. Use and its connection to the domestic arena constitute the framework and context in which I work. The themes provided by function are familiar – vases, cups, teapots, etc. Each provides a framework for a longer and less obvious list of concerns which include in no particular order; interactivity, material, chemistry, the realm of ideas, metaphor, formal constitution, social and cultural context, the pot's relationship to "fine art", and function as "idea” - the list goes on. The intricate relationships between daily activity, domestic life, and the remarkable experiences found in the studio, reveal and renew.
