From the Artist: I consider the pots I choose to make as tools. Some are tools of convivality but most are objects that support  moments of engaged solitude such as knitting, gardening, reading, and cooking. These pots inhabit the world I live in, inclusive of any and all activities which encourage self-reliance and connection. Studio practice entails forms of the perennially useful as well as re-purposing the once essential. Recycling motifs of indistinct eras and design elements of other handcrafts inspires my surface work which is then surrendered to the vagaries of atmospheric soda firing, muddling those patterns in unexpected ways. My hope is that these objects which might lend delight, beauty and comfort in the new world of ours, and once it is forgotten.

About the Work: I use a variety of slips and terra sigillata while my stoneware is still green. Once bisqued, post are glaze trailed with intricate patterns, based loosely on traditional knitting and crocheting stiches. I then relinquish these pots and their patterns to the atmosphere of a soda kiln. Within this volatile environment, a carefully laid plan will become obscured, obliterated, transformed and sometimes preserved. All pots fired to cone 10.
