SHOW STATEMENT: My Ceramic work explores the vast landscape of the human psyche, playfully delving into universal coping mechanisms that helps us through the moments of humility, contradiction, anxiety, and trauma. Using the malleability of clay, I'm able to express the strength found in these moments of vulnerability. My anthropomorphic works invite viewers to reflect on their personal journeys and, possibly, find a sense of belonging and understand for the diverse ways we navigate through life's trials and tribulations. With my functional wares I often combine cute, funky animals and/or monsters with beloved comfort foods, as a lighthearted way to explore the complex ways in which we use food as a coping mechanism. Sometimes I go for the "more is more" approach with detailed sculptural elements to depict the feeling of ambivalence by using contrasting imagery on different sides of a single piece. The goal of my ceramic work is to celebrate the mundane. Whether that be through an oddly adorable mug, a highly embellished butter dish, or a relatable jar, I hope to elevate and bring joy & wonder to the everyday experience.
